Regina Spektor Songs - Is TV the New Radio?

Radio isn't what it used to be. Artists can't count on radio to get new fans anymore. Well, not exclusively like back in the old days. Though college radio is still going strong, most stations are dwindling and left with limited options like oldies and classic rock to draw in enough listeners.

And so, of course, radio is not the same for the listeners either. We can't count on the radio to introduce us to new bands. Because finding new music on the radio is so rare these days, we're are turning to our televisions to discover our new favorite artists. And we're not watching MTV or VH1 - they don't even have music videos anymore do they? And if they do it's "VH1 Classics". We're just watching plain old tv and then searching online to find out who wrote that great song - there's no DJ to introduce us anymore.

Many musicians, like Regina Spektor for example, gained the majority of their fans by getting their songs placed in television. Budding musicians are following Regina's lead and focusing on music placement for their songs instead of radio play.

Regina Spektor's song, "Fidelity", was featured in Grey's Anatomy, Veronica Mars, Brothers & Sisters and more. The video for that same song was viewed over 200,000 times in two days on You Tube. And that's just one song! She's had plenty of hits on the boob tube and continues to be a darling for tv drama and film placements.
